GAVINANA
Absolutely, charming, Gavinana preserves almost completely
its original medieval architecture with narrow and steep streets
which are lined with stone houses reaching the main square.
Here you find the monument dedicated to local hero, Francesco Ferrucci,
who in 1530 was the leader of the Florentine resistance against
the Imperial troops. In the main square you also find the church
if Santa Maria Assunta, built in the 12th century and holds a precious
organ from the 19th century. Surrounded by marvellous chestnut forests,
Gavinana is today a very appreciated summer resort.
