SERRA PISTOIESE

The enchanting sites which can be seen among the sober stone houses are the main attraction in Serra Pistoiese, an ancient village which was already known in 1040 to be the stronghold of the Counts Alberti di Capraia. Donated to Pistoia at the end of the 13th century and rebuilt after its destruction in 1327, Serra preserves its original architecture, with one single road which winds along the ridge of the mountain and connects the two access gates.
The church San Leonardo is marvellous, which features beautiful medieval stone capitals. Also visit the site of Furfalo, one of the most suggestive sites of the mountains of Pistoia. Once there was a church here which today is in ruins, but it still preserves its holy value for the inhabitants. There are actually messes celebrated here in Easter.
