SERRAVALLE PISTOIESE
A nice hill village, Serravalle Pistoiese is located between
Pistoia and Montecatini Terme, in the middle of an area which featured
the road Via Cassia. It dominates the valley below with its two
rectangular towers which witness the strategic importance of Serravalle
during the Middle Ages. The historical centre of Serravalle preserves
its medieval structure, with narrow streets and small squares lined
with sober stone buildings.

Serravalle
is worth a visit as you find marvellous views from the top of the
Rocca Nuova and you can breathe the ancient atmosphere of one of the
most fascinating villages in the surroundings of Pistoia. Visit the
Chiesa di San Michele, which inside features its original Romanesque
structure, while the outside is embellished with a nice arcade from
the 17th century. The Chiesa di Santo Stefano preserves the sober
and elegant white façade with its saddle roof.
The inside features a Late Baroque style, modified in the
18th century. The small oratory dedicated to Saints Rocco and Sebastiano
is charming and was recently restructured and houses some frescoes
from the 14th century. All the hills which surround Serravalle are
interesting to explore: rolling hills with olive groves and small
ancient villages which have been restructured with care and preserve
their tranquillity. |
