SPORTS

If course the main sport in Abetone is skiing, as the resort features more than 50 km of ski-runs in the four valleys, Valle della Lima, Val di Luce, Valle dello Scoltenna and Valle del Sestaione. The network of runs which are all connected to each other, is the biggest run-system in the central part of Italy. The runs can be covered with artificial snow to guarantee an excellent selection of winter-sports during the whole season. There are several cableways to reach the top and even a baby-lift.
Those who prefer cross-country skiing can enjoy the 15 km long run. The runs of Abetone and Corno alle Scale host several national and international competitions, in different categories and specialities. There are of course ski-schools for both beginners and more experienced skiers. Those who have never skied before can rent the equipment necessary for skiing in the shops next to the runs.
During the summer there are other sports to practise. You can rent bikes, play tennis or soccer, swim in the pools, go trekking or horse-back riding with experienced guides. Along the rivers you can fish or go canoeing or try free climbing or windsailing. If you prefer a more relaxing time you can discover the lakes and the streams, the flourishing valleys with churches plotted in the landscape of the marvellous Pistoiese Mountain. Or why not take the cable car up to the top to have a meal in the restaurants.
