The
main villages of the Pratomagno along the main road which used to
connect Florence with Arezzo, are located in a marvellous landscape,
plotted with springs and rivers which end up in the Arno valley, divided
into small valleys in the middle of the mountains. The landscape of
the Pratomagno comprehends peaks, big sunny pastures, conifer, chestnut
and oak forests, olive groves and vineyards on the hills which frame
the Arno Valley.
Together with the natural beauties you also find the beauties
made by man, who since the Etruscans has lived along the slopes of
the Pratomagno. The very present religiosity of the inhabitants of
the Pratomagno, has contributed to the construction of great architectonic
buildings and the creation of artworks. The area is plotted with sanctuaries,
monasteries and churches and an itinerary to discover them will make
you breathe the special spirituality of this region.
The historical villages and the small mountain villages which
are located along the ancient road Via dei Setteponti along the Pratomagno,
separate the peaks of the mountains from the hills next to the river
Arno. The best way to discover the beauties of the Pratomagno is to
take the Via dei Setteponti is the best way to discover the beauties
of the Pratomagno, where the beauty of the sites and the good food
go hand in hand. There are lots of farms in this area which host tourists
and here you can taste the local products of the Pratomagno. From
the farms you start the excursions to discover the intact nature and
you will soon forget the grey colour of the modern cities.
The conformation of the Pratomagno has allowed the area to
develop a varied agriculture. The olive oil is of course the principal
actor of the cuisine, but you should not miss the local wine and the
vegetables which are used to make gastronomic specialities. The chestnuts
represent the base of the old gastronomy of the Pratomagno, while
the "zolfino bean", one of the seven Italian products which
risk to disappear, can be distinguished by its delicate taste and
creamy and light consistence.
During the summer you will find lots of time to practise sports
and to enjoy a varied program of cultural events organised by the
tourist agencies of the Pratomagno, and visit museums and art sites.
